Mistaken Happiness (Geteiltes Glück)

Family Drama, 90 minutes, Freiburg, Berlin, first run 2/2/2011, ARD (SWR)

Story
One day Nicole Wagner and her partner, Grille, a construction worker, discover by chance that their boy Dennis isn’t really their son. Nine years earlier, when Dennis was born, he and another baby called Sebastian – the son of a wealthy, educated couple called Callenbergs – were switched by mistake in the maternity hospital. Even though both sets of parents initially decide not to change the situation, they quickly discover that things aren’t the same. Each family can’t stop thinking about its own child. Mr Callenberg wants to take both boys into his family, but the Child Welfare Department thinks differently – and returns both boys to their biological families. A sensitive and witty drama about two families, their ideas on life and what happens when their experiences collide.
