Second season coming

“Crystal Wall”: ZDF now also has a young adult success
Everyone is talking about “Maxton Hall”, but in the slipstream of the prime video series, ZDF now also has a success to report in the young adult sector: “Crystal Wall”. The 24 episodes produced by Producers at Work went so well that a sequel has already been decided. […]
In April, ZDF released the series “Crystal Wall”, produced by Producers at Work and starring Anna Bardavelidze and Gustav Schmidt. There were ten episodes at the start, followed by two new episodes every week. A total of 24 episodes were released by the end of May. Directors Tarek Roehlinger and Greta Benkelmann have given these episodes the emotional charge typical of the genre and are always close to the two main characters. In terms of content, ZDF follows in the footsteps of the great role models in this genre. As head writer and creative producer, Birgit Maiwald and her team have created a series in which different origins collide. […]

Online a great success for ZDF
[…] But it also went well online – especially for the first episode. It achieved a rare feat: in April as well as May and June, the episode made it into ZDF’s top 10 streaming hit list based on the new Census+ evaluation by AGF.
In May, 1.22 million views were even enough for the top spot among ZDF productions. In May and June, a further one and a half million views were added. That would be a great success for any provider. […] ZDF has now given DWDL.de concrete figures for the entire 24 episodes for the first time, which were previously unknown. According to the figures, “Crystal Wall” achieved an average of 600,000 views per episode and a viewing time of around 70 percent. In Mainz, they speak of an “exceptionally strong performance” and are also observing continued usage. “We are very satisfied with the performance of ‘Crystal Wall’. […] The series is developing sustainably, which was particularly important to us in terms of target group loyalty.” In addition to the quantitative usage, there is also strong qualitative feedback. “Both target group surveys and social media dynamics – such as millions of fan edits on TikTok – show that the series has been extremely well received by the target group, including internationally,” ZDF told DWDL.de. Incidentally, the series was developed as part of ZDF’s internal, target group-oriented dvelopment process ZOE – in “close consultation with the target group”, as they say. The positive response to “Crystal Wall” has confirmed the broadcaster’s decision to “continue to expand this strategic program approach in the future”.

To be continued: Second season is fixed
Due to its great success, it is no surprise that ZDF is already working on a sequel. The broadcaster confirmed to DWDL.de that “Crystal Wall” will receive a second season. “The series has met our expectations, both in terms of reach and in terms of resonance with the target group. We look forward to continuing the story,” said a channel spokesperson. It is currently unclear whether Producers at Work will shoot the sequel in Austria again. Season one was supported by the Fisa+ funding model there, but this is currently suspended […]
