“Petra geht baden” opens the German Film Festival

The opening film of the German Film Festival in Ludwigshafen is “Petra geht Baden” by Rainer Kaufmann.

“Petra geht baden” by Rainer Kaufmann will open the 21st Festival of German Films Ludwigshafen am Rhein on August 20. The comedy about a camping trip not only delivers top-class acting, but also scores with socially relevant themes: getting older, re-sorting relationships – and the realization that life is by no means over after working life.

At the center is Petra, a recently retired top manager played by Ulrike Kriener, who embarks on a vacation in the Czech Republic planned by her husband Erik (Rolf Lassgård). Instead of relaxation, old love affairs, family conflicts and surprising twists and turns await between tent poles and campfires.

The screenplay was written by Uli Brée. The film was produced by Christian Popp (Producers at Work) for ZDF, with Martin Farkas directing the camera. The premiere will take place in the Zeltkino B in front of 1,200 invited guests.

Festival director Michael Kötz calls the film a “top-class comedy” – it will be interesting to see whether this promise is kept.
